About ITA Airways
ITA Airways (IATA code: AZ) is the flag carrier of Italy. It began operations in October 2021 as the successor to Alitalia, which ceased flying the same month, and inherited the AZ code. Its main hub is Rome Fiumicino, with Milan Linate as a second base.
ITA operates a young fleet built around the Airbus A220, A320neo and A330neo, and serves North America from Rome with routes to New York, Boston, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington. Milan Linate carries mostly European traffic.
The Lufthansa Group acquired a stake in ITA in 2025, and the airline has been transitioning its alliance and partnership arrangements toward the Lufthansa and Star Alliance side as a result.
