About Air India
Air India (IATA code: AI) is the flag carrier of India, founded in 1932. It returned to Tata Group ownership in January 2022 after nearly seven decades under the Indian government, and has since been in the middle of the largest fleet and product overhaul in its history.
Its hubs are Delhi and Mumbai. Air India is the main operator of nonstop service between the United States and India, flying from New York JFK and Newark, Chicago, San Francisco and Washington Dulles — routes of 14 to 16 hours that avoid a Gulf or European connection entirely.
The airline merged with Vistara in November 2024 and joined Star Alliance, which connects it to United for onward US domestic travel. Cabin products vary considerably by aircraft during the refit programme, so our agents check which configuration operates your specific flight before you book.

It depends on price and on how much a connection costs you in time. Emirates, Qatar and Etihad often price below Air India with one stop in the Gulf. Our agents price both so you can weigh roughly 16 hours nonstop against a cheaper one-stop itinerary.

US–India routes generally allow two checked bags in Economy at 23 kg each, which is more generous than most transatlantic fares. Allowances on other routes differ, so call us to confirm.
